Hey, y’all. I’m Southern American living in southern England, with a passion for art and history. I get to London as often as possible to see the museums, and I usually travel up and back in a day. I don’t like to waste time searching websites or standing in line, and I have a few hints for avoiding that stuff that I’ll be sharing.
I also know there are a lot of folks out there that find painting and sculpture interesting but about as understandable as nuclear fission. Or maybe you love someone who loves art and you just don’t see what the big fuss is about. If you’re one of those people who can’t see the difference between a multi-million dollar masterpiece and your kid’s finger painting—but you want to—you’ve come to the right place.
I have a master’s degree in Humanities, focusing on sculpture, with lots of classes and research papers on literature, history, religion, blah, blah. But I’m going to try to make you forget all that by not writing like an art historian. I plan instead to tell you some stories behind recognizable artists and artworks. I’ll also introduce you to some artists you probably aren’t familiar with. I want to make art fun and approachable and to convince you that it matters.
I’ll give you museum schedules, upcoming exhibitions, and recommendations in London, as well as art history in bite-size chunks. My travels will inspire my posts, so look for artwork from around the world. I certainly don’t know it all, and I’ll be doing lots of research along the way. I look forward to sharing my journey with you.
